At sea with Yong Man Kwon

Yong Man Kwon paints ships, lots of them, in all manner of shapes, sizes and marine environments. A selection of his canvases is on display at Mokspace Gallery in London 8 August-1 September 2013.

Unlike many of the Korean artists who pass through London, or Europe for that matter, either as graduates or as participants in group shows, Yong Man Kwon isn’t a transient artist. Born in Korea he’s a French citizen and an official marine artist for the French Navy, an extraordinary position for a former citizen of South Korea.

The paintings in the exhibition, Momentum at rest, are a vibrant celebration of vessels in dock or at sea. The natural environment, turbulent seascapes, calm waters or the drama at work in skies above are all complements to the crafted wonders that are the ships rendered in exquisite detail by Yong.

Momentum at rest. Mokspace. 8 August-1 September 2013. 33 Museum Street, London WC1A 1LH.
